"3 Minute Wonder" is a competition for postgraduate or above researchers in all physics-related fields, whether it is in industry or academia. You do not need to be a member of the IOP to enter the competition.
The aim of the competition is to explain your current research in 3 minutes, pitching to the level of interested non-specialists. On the evening the audience will be made up of sixth formers, undergraduates, fellow postgraduates and senior researchers as well as members of the public.
Each presentation will be scored immediately afterwards with comments from the judges and a mark out of 10. The panel of 4 judges will represent a diverse range of science related professions including teaching, journalism, research and industry.
A prize of £250 and £100 pounds for first and second respectively will be offered along with a certificate for all those taking part. An annual record of the winners will also be kept by the IOP.
