Following hotly contested regional heats, the IOP is glad to announce that the final of its 3 Minute Wonder (3MW) competition will be held at the Royal Institution on 15th May. The final will see both the winner and runner-up of each regional heat go head to head in order to win £500 and the title of 3MW Grand Champion.
If you would like to be in the audience of what promises to be an exciting night of physics fun then please register above (non-members welcome).
3 Minute Wonder challenges researchers in physics-related fields (in industry or academia) to explain their work to the public in - you've guessed it - just three minutes. Participants are scored by a panel of judges with points awarded for how well the idea is communicated. Think the BBC’s Wonders of the Solar System meets Strictly Come Dancing – a kind of X-factor for physics!
The event is completely free and open to the public (nibbles and drinks included), we therefore encourage you to bring family and friends along to what will be an informative and entertaining evening. In case you need any more encouragement, Simon Singh (Fermat's Last Theorem), Lucie Green (Sky at Night and Stargazing Live) and Steve Mould (The One Show and Festival of the Spoken Nerd) have agreed to be on the judging panel.
18.00: Doors open – nibbles and drinks
19:00: Competition Starts (1st Half)
20:00: Restart (2nd Half)
20:50: Winner announced
