Speakers: Professor Iain Morison, Jodrell Bank Observatory, University of Manchester

The lecture will describe how the telescope was conceived and the excitement of its early days when it played a major role in the space race. Since then it has become an icon of British science and technology and has made many exciting discoveries. Following an upgrade a few years ago it is now better than at any time in its history and is a key element in the MERLIN and European arrays as well as being a superb instrument for the observation of pulsars.
