Who first understood the underlying principles and forces of flight? Who first defined the concept of the modern aeroplane? Who designed the first man carrying glider and have it flown by his footman?

No, not a couple of Americans at the beginning of the 20th century, but a Yorkshire Baronet, Sir George Cayley, at the beginning of the 19th. That's the claim that will be made by the ghost of Sir George in the lecture in the Mining Institute in Newcastle.
