Key legislators, learned societies, professional bodies, and others, have been campaigning strongly for the appointment of a Chief Scientific Adviser over a number of years. At its last meeting, in November, the All-Party Group very much welcomed the intention, expressed in the Draft Innovation Strategy Consultation document, to establish such a role.

We hope that this event will act as a significant contribution to the ongoing campaign for a Chief Scientific Adviser for Northern Ireland.

I am delighted that our distinguished speakers will include: Professor Patrick Cunningham, Professor of Animal Genetics, Trinity College Dublin, and former Chief Scientific Adviser to the Irish Government, and Professor Geoffrey Boulton OBE FRS FRSE, Regius Professor Emeritus, Edinburgh University, Chair of the Royal Society’s Science Policy Advisory Group, and a former member of the UK Prime Minister’s Council for Science and Technology. A Q&A Panel Discussion will follow the presentations. The evening will be chaired by Basil McCrea MLA.
