Prof Simon Green, Professor of Planetary and Space Science at The Open University will speak about the possibility of avoiding asteroid impacts. For the first time in the history of the planet, humans have the potential to prevent a large scale natural disaster. He will describe the potential threat and consequences of asteroid impacts and why we should take action now to be prepared for the next one. He will explain some of the most feasible techniques proposed to deflect potential impactors and plans for space missions to test them.
