Speaker: Prof Janet Drew
For centuries, astronomy has been as technologically driven as it has been driven by curiosity. What has changed relatively recently is that we are now able to conduct very-large area sky surveys. We shall present this changing picture of modern astronomy, mainly through the story of the execution of one such survey of the Milky Way which is nearly complete in the northern hemisphere and is about to 'head south'.
Professor Janet Drew is Director of the Centre for Astrophysics Research at the University of Hertfordshire.
