Atom manipulation: the ultimate nanotechnology

Clock icon
19:00 – 20:00 10 Nov 2010
Location icon
Lecture Theatre 1.01, St Michaels Building, University of Portsmouth

Speakers: Quanmin Guo

In his talk, Quanmin Guo will focus on the application of the scanning tunnelling microscopy (STM) in both atom-resolved surface imaging and the manipulation of atoms and molecules. After a short description of the operating principles of the STM, a number of examples where interesting atomic structures of solid surfaces will be demonstrated. This will be followed by an introduction to atom manipulation, which is used to construct nanoscale structures one atom at a time.
