Speakers: Dr Andy Smith, STFC, Daresbury Laboratory

Synchrotron and neutron sources are large physics facilities that over the past 30 years have become increasingly important tools for a range of science spanning physics, chemistry, biology, environmental and materials sciences. In recent years the advantages of these instruments in understanding the structure of materials has been applied to issues concerning the provenance, manufacture and conservation of objects from our cultural heritage.
This talk aims to cover a cross-section of the studies that have recently been undertaken using these sources of historical objects including paintings, cathedrals and ships.
