Last November Peter Higgs and Francois Englert were awarded the Nobel Prize in physics for discovering the symmetry breaking mechanism that gives mass to all particles. This event followed the discovery of the Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC at CERN on 4 July, 2012.
