The SpiNNaker project has produced a massively-parallel computer with an interconnect fabric inspired by, and designed to emulate, the very high connectivity found between neurons in the brain. The resulting machine will incorporate up to a million mobile phone processors and be capable of modelling networks of spiking neurons with complexity up to 1% of the human brain in biological real time, or ten whole cat brains if you prefer! This talk will present the principles underpinning the design of the machine, and the sorts of results obtained with it to date.
Talks start at 18.30 with tea and coffee available from 18.00. All are welcome and all our talks are free to attend.
