Speakers: Stewart Martin-Haugh, Department of Physics, University of York and CERN Summer Student 2008

Coffee and biscuits in the physics concourse from 6.00pm
The media has been flooded recently with sensationalist reports of a Big Bang machine, black holes and strangelets. However, life at CERN for staff and students is rather different, but equally exciting. The speaker will give an insight into life at CERN from a Summer Student's point of view. A popular introduction to LHC physics and experiments will be given, and CERN's nuclear physics programme will also be described.
