Charles Parsons was president of the Institute of Physics 1923–25. Charles's father, William Parsons, 3rd Earl of Rosse, the great astronomer who was president of the Royal Society 1848–54 built the Leviathan of Parsonstown which was the largest telescope in the world for more than 70 years. Charles's daughter, Rachel, was the co-founder and first president of the Women's Engineering Society. These people will be the main area of Henrietta Heald's talk. A more detailed abstract will be available closer to the time.
A buffet will be served half an hour before the commencement of the lecture.
