Most of us have marvelled at the craftsmanship of Roman and Greek statues, but few of us can conceive how these plain stone statues may have looked in full colour. Recently completed work by the University of Glasgow and Historic Environment Scotland has combined technological advances in portable x-ray fluorescence and Raman spectroscopy to understand and re-imagine sculptures from the Antonine Wall - Rome’s most north-western frontier - with their original colours. The workshop will explore how the technology works and provide opportunities for participants to recreate their own colourful versions of the famous Antonine Wall Distance Stones. This event is free and no booking is required.

Sat 27 Oct: 11am – 12pm, 1pm – 2pm, 3pm – 4pm in Base 1
