The relationship between evidence and policy is complex and sometimes proves controversial. Policymakers can be heavily criticised if they are not seen to fully use the available evidence and so are often keen to claim their policies are evidence-based. But within any political or policy decision there are a great number of influencing factors which affect the final integration of ‘evidence’ and outcome. Each year, the Annual Policy Review examine the complexities, and potential barriers to evidence-based policy making.
