Join us for a family-friendly bike ride from the Victoria Embankment in Nottingham out to Attenborough Nature Centre and back.
Travelling at 5 times the speed of light as we cycle along the river towpath, we'll start at the centre of the sun (the war memorial) and work our way past all of the planets as far as Pluto* (Attenborough nature centre). We'll stop at each planet to talk about what we can see around us.
All space travellers will be provided with travel documents for your voyage and there's a stamp to collect at each stop.
After stopping for lunch at Attenborough we'll return to the start point via the same route. We expect to be back no later than 3pm.
* We know, Pluto isn't a planet... but we didn't want it to feel left out
Registration essential as numbers are limited
Yes and Yes - this is open to anyone. We just ask that you register in advance as places are limited. We also ask that children are accompanied by an adult.
The whole route is along the river Trent and is all on towpaths and cycle paths - we won't need to cycle on a road at any point. There are no hills.
The paths are good so any type of bike should be suitable - we've tested the route with a road bike with no problems.
The pace will be easy - we've estimated timings but we won't be in a rush if anyone wants to go slower. Children are very welcome!
It's 10 km each way, so roughly an hour of gentle riding either side of lunch.
You will need your own bike. Unfortunately we do not have any available to lend out.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a helmet and something to drink.
Lunch can be bought at the nature reserve cafe, or your may prefer to bring a packed lunch.
In front of the war memorial on Victoria Embankment (see map). Please be there for 10:30.
There is a public car park at the north end of Victoria Embankment, next to the Brewhouse pub and refreshments kiosk (search for Trent Bridge Kiosk in Google Maps).
We expect to be back no later than 3pm.
