Einstein’s 1905 Revolution in Physics

Clock icon
19:00 – 20:00 4 Oct 2010
Location icon
UCLan Westlakes Campus, Samuel Lindow Building, Westlakes Science and Technology Park, Whitehaven, CA24 3JY

Speakers: Dr. Vincent Smith MBE (University of Bristol and CERN) and Dr. Peter Ford MBE (University of Bath)

In 1905 Albert Einstein produced a series of papers, which revolutionised our understanding of physics. His explanation of Brownian motion, the photoelectric effect and the constant value of the speed of light established the existence of molecules and light quanta and gave rise to the special theory of relativity. The speakers will
explain Einstein’s work in a simple and non-mathematical manner placing it within its historical context.
