Emerging Renewables: Is Wave and Tidal energy making a splash?

Clock icon
19:00 – 19:00 14 Dec 2015
Location icon
Bath Royal Literary & Scientific Institution, 16-18 Queen Square, Bath, BA1 2HN

Speakers: Jodi Walsh, University of Bath

The UK is surrounded by water. This could be utilised to provide up to 20% of the UKs electricity demand through Wave Energy Converters and Tidal Stream Devices. This would combat climate change and increase energy security, increase the variety of energy sources and boost the economy. So why is it that this proven industry isn’t booming?

The talk will explore the current state of the Marine Renewable Energy industry, the challenges it faces, and look into the current research undertaken here in the South West to make the commercialisation of this technology possible.

JODI WALSH is a second year PhD student funded by the Natural Environmental Research Council Great Western 4+ Doctoral Training Partnership. She works on a collaborative project between the University of Bath and the University of Exeter exploring the use of underwater acoustics for engineering health monitoring of offshore energy devices.

Non-members welcome - Admission Free - Coffee from 6:30pm.
