Michael Faraday carried out an enormous amount of research in his lifetime but is best remembered today for his investigations into the relationship between electricity and magnetism, which later gave rise to the electrical generation and distribution industry. Dr Ford’s lecture will concentrate on this aspect of his work as well as describing the beginnings of the Royal Institution in London where Faraday carried out almost all his work. It is at a non-technical level and is richly illustrated with slides and experimental demonstrations some of which take place using liquid nitrogen.
