Speakers: Prof. Ian Swain

Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) is a technique in which electrical impulses are applied to the nerves and muscles of people with a wide range of neurological problems as a result of Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s Disease, Spinal Cord Injury etc., to restore missing or impaired function. Other uses of FES will also be explained and demonstrated. As a result of our work we also established the first NHS commercial company in England, OML, seen over 5000 patients in Salisbury, set up other clinical centres in the UK and manufacture equipment which we currently sell in 18 countries.
