Speakers: Chantal Nobs

With an ever-growing global population energy consumption is predicted to more than double by 2050. A self-sustaining fusion power plant would provide a safe and clean alternative to the fossil fuels that currently provide 80% of the developed world’s energy. Over the last 50 years, JET (Joint European Torus, in Oxfordshire) has been at the heart of the European fusion program. Now, with ITER under construction we are about to enter an exciting new phase in the journey to commercialise fusion power. In this talk, Chantal will discuss the status of fusion energy, the challenges we are yet to overcome and how her research aims to tackle some of these problems.
