Galactic Archaeology - Uncovering lost populations in the Milky Way

Speakers: Apoorva Jayaraman (Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge)

Populations of stars behave like 'fossils' - they retain in their properties the imprint of various stages of galaxy formation, including the conditions during the earliest time in their formation.

Galactic Archeaology is the
new avatar of traditional observational astronomy making possible the exciting discovery of populations of stars previously 'unseen' in the Milky Way Galaxy.

Written in these precious fossils is the complex, less
known story of the formation of our home galaxy.
