Speakers: Mike Morley (University of Cambridge)

Gunpowder was the first practical explosive, discovered by Chinese alchemists. It and succeeding explosives have had an image by turns – useful, productive, hazardous, destructive. Those involved in this area (such as Guy Fawkes) have cut a variety of figures. This talk presents explosives in their scientific and historical context.
