Professor Sir Harold W. Kroto, FRS, Nobel Laureate (Harry) made unique and prodigious contributions to science, expanding its frontiers and nurturing its health. He spawned new fields of science, particularly carbon science, he advocated for science and reason, and he inspired the young. Harry died on the 30th April this year after a courageous struggle with illness.

There will be a celebration of his life, Remembering Harry, on the afternoon of the 26th of August organised by his family and the University of Sussex.

The British Carbon Group has organized a morning session concerning the science of fullerenes to complement this event. The schedule features the 2016 Ubbelohde lecture by Professor Eleanor Campbell FRS, and some members of Harry’s former group and eminent international collaborators.

We are grateful to Professor F.G.N. Cloke FRS, Head of Chemistry at Sussex and Dr. Hazel Cox for arranging the lecture theatre for this meeting, which is in easy walking distance of the Remembering
Harry event.

For the latest details, please visit the British Carbon Group website at www.britishcarbon.org.

There is no registration fee, but please indicate your attendance by email (malcolm.heggie@gmail.com) by 24 August. Feel free to forward this message to colleagues who may be interested in the meeting.
