The Symposium on Reactive Sputter Deposition was established in 2000, providing a platform for discussing recent achievements in reactive sputter deposition and thin films among leading international scientists, engineers and students. The Symposium has developed to an annual tradition, being organised in the past years by the Belgian, Dutch and Austrian Vacuum Societies and held in Gent ( Belgium ), Delft (The Netherlands) and Leoben (Austria). This years event took place in Manchester (UK) at the Manchester Museum.
The general impression was that a good general standard was achieved with a good venue and excellent dinner. All agreed that it should occur again. There were about 100 attendees (28 students, and representatives from 20 countries); 10 exhibitors. IPSI financially supported this event: (£750) to support an invited speaker and to reduce the fee for IOP members (from £240 to £200; and £140 for students). The next RSD is planned for Ghent in December 2011.
