Speakers: Prof Allan D Boardman, University of Salford

The lecture begins with a new look at elementary optics and the adoption of the usual definition of refractive index. It then moves on to a magical world of photonic metamaterials that lead directly to invisibility cloaking.
The latter not only involves hiding objects but hiding events as well, making possible the covert interruption of non-interruptible computers and creating the illusion of a Star Trek transporter.
