19:30 – 21:00 19 Mar 2013
Location icon
Malvern St James, Avenue Road, Malvern, WR14 3BA
(Opposite Gt. Malvern’s railway station. Follow signs from main entrance.)

Speakers: Prof. Allan Boardman, University of Salford

All of our talks are free and open to anyone with an interest in science or technology.

The lecture begins with a new look at elementary optics and the adoption of the usual definition of refractive index. It then moves on to a magical world of photonic metamaterials that lead directly to invisibility cloaking. The latter not only involves  hiding objects but hiding events as well, making possible the covert interruption of non-interruptible computers and creating the illusion of a Star Trek transporter.
