Following hotly contested regional heats, the final of the Institute of Physics' 3 Minute Wonder (3MW) competition promises to be an exciting night of physics fun. The final will see both the winner and runner-up of each regional heat go head to head in order to win £500 and the title of 3MW Grand Champion 2016.
3 Minute Wonder challenges researchers in physics-related fields (in industry or academia) to explain their work to the public in - you've guessed it - just three minutes. Participants are scored by a panel of judges with points awarded for how well the idea is communicated. It's the BBC's Wonders of the Solar System meets Strictly Come Dancing – a kind of X-factor for physics!
The event is completely free and open to the public (nibbles and drinks included) so bring family and friends along to what will be an informative and entertaining evening. Maggie Philbin (Bang Goes The Theory), Fran Scott (CBBC), Helen Thomas (BBC Science Producer) and Marek Kukula (Public Astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich) will all be on the judging panel.
