The HP Group is arranging an afternoon meeting in the Audrey Wood Seminar Room, in the Clarendon Laboratory, Oxford devoted to some of the major difficulties is establishing electromagnetism in the later 19th century. These include the debates over the status of the law of Ampère relating the force between current elements; where is electromagnetic energy located? and efforts to established absolute units in electromagnetism.
