Keele Physics Centre 2018-19 Lecture Series

Speaker: Colin Davidson (GE Grid Solutions)

Title: From wind farm to power socket: Connecting large-scale renewable power sources using HVDC

Abstract: This talk will give an introduction to the technology of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) power transmission, which is increasingly being used to help integrate large-scale renewable power sources to the grid. Some of the real-world engineering challenges presented by this technology will be presented from the perspective of a physicist-turned-engineer.

Notes: Tea and coffee will be available in the Lennard Jones Foyer from 6.30p.m. Talks start at 7.30pm and are followed by Q&A. These talks, which are FREE to attend and open to the public, are sponsored by the West Midlands Branch of the IoP. There is ample car parking space on campus, which is free during the evening.
