IOP Teacher Network Day
Saturday 01 October 2011
Timings are provisional
The IOP Teacher Network Day is a free event for anyone teaching or supporting physics. Teachers can choose three workshops from the list below.
Mobile technology for the new GCSE curriculum - touch screen loggers and iPhone/pad/pod This hands on workshop for the new Physics GCSE specifications is designed to engage staff into the world of hand held learning using the latest colour touch screen data capture solution from PASCO. Delegates will have the opportunity to use the SPARK SLS and Bluetooth Airlinks for use with the apple 'ifamily' of devices. Please download the FREE SPARKVue App from the App Store onto your iPod/iPad or iPhone before the event and experience tomorrow's technology in the classroom. (KS 3-5) Jo-Anne Collins - PASCO UK Sales Representative (Feedback Group)
BLOODHOUND SCC project
The BLOODHOUND SSC project is an attempt at the World Land Speed record but with the number one aim of helping to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Bloodhound is unique in the world of advanced engineering in that all the research, design, build and testing of the car will be shared with schools and colleges throughout the UK and that includes where we get it wrong! The workshop will include the challenges faced by the engineering team and how the boundaries of science and engineering are being pushed to design a car capable of reaching 1,000mph. (KS 1-5) Dave Rowley - BLOODHOUND SSC Education Programme Director
Waves and Radiation
Some low cost demonstrations and experiments from SEP to illustrate the properties of waves. (KS3-5) Helen Pollard - IOP Teacher Network Coordinator
Dragsters-Make and Take (Maximum of 10 delegates per session) This workshop will help to make the teaching of speed more interesting. Delegates will make a compressed air dragster launcher from plumbing parts and make some dragsters to race. Participants get to take the completed launcher, dragster and a booklet of activities back to school. (KS3-5) Mathew Taunton - IOP Teacher Network Coordinator
In the morning, David Wilkinson (IOP Midlands Regional Officer) will present his lecture 'The Physics of Not Killing People - The Search for Less Lethal Weapons'
