The workings of gravitational wave detectors
Gravitational wave signals from binary black holes merging have finally been measured after a more than 50 year effort of developing the technology to be able to measure the minute fluctuations they cause in spacetime. This talk will shed light on how the advanced LIGO detectors which detected the first signals work and explain some of the technology development involved.
