Speakers: Jim Smith

The UK is at present seriously considering building new nuclear power stations to replace our current ageing reactors. Nuclear is seen by some as providing a secure source of energy with low greenhouse gas emissions. By others it is seen as dangerous, polluting and expensive. The talk will cover issues surrounding the sustainability of nuclear power including its cost, environmental and health risks as well as the problem of what to do with the waste.
