The Large Hadron Collider is a new 27km circumference particle accelerator located at the European particle physics centre CERN, near Geneva. The accelerator circulated its first beams in September 2008, before an accident suspended its operation. This talk will describe the scientific aims of the project and provide the latest news on the commisioning of both the accelerator and its four large experiments.
Lecture begins at 19:30, with a sherry / orange-juice reception from 19:00.
