Speaker: Prof. Paul Younger Newcastle University
Refreshments will be served from 6pm.
A general meeting of the Branch will start at 6.30.
As the world’s economies strive to substantially increase the renewable element of their energy budgets, it seems inevitable that responsible use of fossil fuels will have to continue for many decades. Gasification of coal underground using boreholes offers a clean and efficient way to access currently stranded energy resources; it will also create voids into which carbon dioxide can be injected, thus offering the prospect of bridging our way to a wholly renewable energy economy by using the energy in coal without further damaging the atmosphere.
