The LHC and its experiments produce ~30 petabytes (30 million gigabytes) of data a year. To store and process this much data requires huge amounts of computing power. This has been achieved by creating the Worldwide computing grid, a network of 170 computing centres spread across 40 countries. Together these make up the grid and provide a common interface to the 20,000 researches working on data from the LHC.
