'LOUD SILENCE' a multi-media art exhibition by 2013 UCD Science Artist in Residence Emma Finucane & Dr.Fred Cummins, Cognitive Scientist UCD.
Their collaborative work addresses common concerns related to interpersonal communication, Cartesian minds, voices, gaze, and silence. The exhibition plots points of intersection in their respective practices, through video, print, drawing, notebook work and an interactive installation.
Two pieces serve to frame the territory they have got lost in. In "The Miscommunication of Communication" Finucane tries and fails to establish any meaningful interaction with her sister. Their worlds remain separate. In "Monks", Cummins illustrates the fusion of worlds that arises in collective chanting, here going beyond restrictions of space, time and tradition, and fusing the chants of Catholic Benedictine and Hindu Hare Krishna monks. The theme of voices in heads, out of heads, between and within, pervades the work, and voice is seen to collaborate with gaze in creating collective worlds.
Emma and Fred will talk about their collaboration on Tuesday 14th October at 5pm, Moore Auditorium, Ground Floor, O' Brien Centre for Science ,UCD, followed by a wine reception and plenty more chat.
Exhibition runs from October 8th -17th, 10:00 -16:30, Mon -Fri.
