Gavin’s expertise is in low-carbon refurbishment of the UK housing stock. But he’s not just a researcher – he has put into practice his knowledge by doing a low carbon refurbishment of his own Victorian house. Gavin will discuss the technical and market potential for scaling up renovation across the whole country; the likely costs and benefits; and some implications for policy, industry, society and research. Do energy experts have the management skills and experience to run building sites? Do builders have the technical understanding to ensure good results? And what about the behaviour of the occupants?
