Speakers: Dr Karin Shmueli

How can we use strong magnets and radio waves to create maps of brain structure and activity? Dr Karin Shmueli will show you on a journey from protons to pictures and beyond. We’ll discuss some of MRI’s advantages and disadvantages and touch on a few of its myriad applications including Functional MRI: a twenty-year-old technique that gives us a non-invasive window into the brain and continues to change our world. Finally, we’ll take a glimpse into where this exciting technique is going – what are the challenges for MRI and the new developments that might be coming soon to a hospital near you?
