*EVENT CANCELLED* We present examples of our work in cancer which has led us to develop, and then deploy, Physics models. Modelling the fluence of x-rays through breast tissue has led us to propose a series models to yield quantitative information to clinicians for the better detection of microcalcifications, spiculated masses, and breast density.
This work has found application in mammography and digital breast tomosynthesis, and the creation of the company Matakina*.
Modelling tumour hypoxia and fibrosis has led us to a better understanding of the information available in PET images and in novel MRI images (within the company Acuitas Medical*).
Finally, the combination ("fusion") of different kinds of images (PET, CT, MRI, ...) has been a recurrent theme, and is the business of Mirada Medical*.
After the talk LMI will be providing a hot supper at a cost of £15. Members wishing to attend the supper should send a cheque, payable to the "Liverpool Medical Institution", to the Administrative Secretary, LMI, 114 Mount Pleasant, Liverpool L3 5SR by 12 February.
