Speakers: Prof. Ian A Walmsley, Hooke Professor of Experimental Physics and Head of Atomic and Laser Physics, University of Oxford

This talk will be followed by the Branch Annual Dinner.
Rapid progress in ultrafast laser technology and in microstructured optics over the last decade has enabled the development of new sources of non-classical light that take advantage of the ability to shape pulsed quantum fields in space and time, by means of tailoring the linear and nonlinear properties of optical media. It is now possible to produce individual and correlated photon wavepackets, for example, with very particular properties, which may be used in applications relevant to new quantum technologies, and which may allow some old questions about the nature of photons to be revisited.
