The UK is about to embark on a programme to build a new generation of nuclear power plants to replace its aging nuclear fleet. Early generation graphite-moderated and CO2-cooled plants will be phased out over the coming decade.
This lecture will briefly look at the history of nuclear power in the UK and then focus on the three light water reactor (LWR) systems currently being evaluated for deployment. It will also look at the so-called Generation IV systems that are being developed.
