Nuclear fusion: an outlook

Clock icon
18:30 – 18:30 20 Apr 2011

Maudland Building, Room MB049, University of Central Lancashire, Preston, PR1 2HE

Speakers: Dr John Pasley

Fusing hydrogen nuclei powers our Sun and the stars but harnessing
this process on Earth is taking a long time. Will inertial confinement with powerful lasers and tiny fuel pellets win the race? Or will the giant ITER experiment lead the way for magnetic confinement? Perhaps nuclear fusion will never be economical this century?
