Humankind has wondered for millennia whether we are alone in the Universe. Basic assumptions and rough approximations quickly lead to a staggeringly high probability of there being other civilisations out there. But we have not seen any evidence of such civilisations. This problem is termed the Fermi Paradox.
Dr M Braddock a member of the Mansfield and Sutton Astronomical Society (MSAS) will explore some aspects of the science behind the Fermi Paradox and the probabilities of the existence of and the discovery of life beyond Earth. The presentation Are we alone - The Fermi Paradox is aimed at audiences with some but not advanced scientific background allowing easy access. This talk will be followed by a brief introduction on what is visible in this month's sky.
