Have you ever considered exploring your passion for physics through volunteering in outreach and public engagement? Not only does this pass this passion on and encourage others to take up an interest in STEM - perhaps even studying a STEM subject or a career in STEM, but it also benefits you as a student soon to be entering the workplace. You’ll develop presentation delivery skills and the ability to communicate science to non-specialists, and these skills will set you apart from other physics graduates when applying for internships, graduate schemes or research positions.

The Institute of Physics is running a two hour workshop to provide you with support and guidance in your emerging career – come along and find out all you need to know to get started in outreach:

  • Preview its new online resources – a collection of new activity ideas and risk assessments, as well as best practice guides and event admin forms
  • Build confidence in selecting activities and interacting with different audiences including those traditionally considered hard-to-reach
  • Find out about all the support and funding available to volunteers wanting to run their own outreach projects
  • Hear about previous great projects, find out about current future opportunities and plan your own using your current interests like drama, music, circus skills, going to pubs, comedy…!

Register by emailing hannah.renshall@iop.org . Members outside of the Manchester area may be eligible to claim travel expenses so indicate this in your email.

Please note this training is open to non-members as well as members.

Organised by: Hannah Renshall (North West Regional Officer)
