Speaker: Dr Ceri Brenner (STFC)
When we press FIRE on the most powerful laser in the world, we deliver a packet of light that is a thousand billion billion times more intense than the sunlight you feel while out on the beach in peak summer. These machines aren’t just a physicist’s playground - they’re being put to task. From igniting a miniature star on earth to keep our power stations working for thousands of years with clean fuel, to powering micro-accelerator beams for detecting and zapping away cancer, to taking a snapshot photo of a jet engine at full speed for performance inspection.
The talk starts at 18.30pm, with refreshments available from 18.00pm.
Talk Venue: Lecture Theatre 2 or 3, Foster Building, University of Central Lancashire, Corporation Street, Preston, PR1 2HE
