Most of us rely on computers, PDAs, mobile phones, etc. These could change in years to come, with the birth of revolutionary new quantum information technologies that allow devices to do more than one thing at the same time – quantum parallelism. The fact that it is impossible to look at quantum systems without disturbing them offers the possibility of uncrackable secure communications. That they can be intimately linked over large distances could lead to the ultimate form of transport – teleportation.
