Speakers: Dr Edwin Aird

Very soon after the discovery of x-rays, they were used for medical applications.
Following a series of technological revolutions over the last century, radiotherapy is now used to treat a wide range of cancers.
Recent advances in imaging at the time of treatment and the use of particle beams instead of x-rays has continued to drive progress and provide a highly effective and efficient treatment for millions of patients worldwide.
Tea/Coffee 18:00 and afterwards. Talk begins 18:30. Dr Aird was until recently Head of Medical Physics at the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre in NW London.
He has led groups providing quality assurance for clinical trials involving radiotherapy in the UK and Europe, and published widely in this field.
