Where is public money best spent within the energy sector in Northern Ireland?
Panel of speakers includes:
- Andy Baird, Managing Director, Planet Solar, who will talk about German renewable energy achievements and compare these to progress in Northern Ireland
- Duncan Botting, a Member of the Energy Policy Panel, Business Innovation and Growth Director at Parsons Brinckerhoff, Executive Chairman of the Scottish European Green Energy Centre, and Managing Director at Global Smart Transformations Ltd, will present on Scottish Renewable/ Sustainable energy targets, policy and technologies
- Dr Elaine Groom, General Manager, QUESTOR, Queen’s University, who will focus on anaerobic digestion and biomass
- Professor Paul Younger, Professor of Energy Engineering, Glasgow University, and previously Director of the Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability, will speak on geothermal energy
The All Party Group on Science and Technology aims to bring together Members of the Northern Ireland Assembly and others with an interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in Northern Ireland with the aim of raising awareness among MLAs of important developments in STEM, both technological and educational and how policy issues impact upon these areas. The APG holds focussed meetings, with debates opened by guest speakers who are active in the fields of interest.
The Institute of Physics in Ireland provides input to this group along with the other professional bodies in science.
