The Chernobyl Disaster
7:00pm (Refreshments from 6:30pm)

On the 26th of April 1986 the world was witness to the worst nuclear disaster when the number 4 reactor at Chernobyl experienced a catastrophic meltdown. The impact from this day had lasting effects not only in Ukraine but worldwide.

In September 2016 Bevan Newell visited Chernobyl, the site of the world's worst nuclear accident, and the surrounding areas on a guided tour as part of his Nuclear Graduate development scheme. The tour covered Chernobyl Town, abandoned villages around the reactor site and the accident memorial near the site of the accident. Bevan is going to speak about the causes of the accident, the effects on the surrounding area as well as what he saw on his visit.
